Polen, 3.-4. juni 2006:

Report from the 27th European Championship in Traditional Karate
The 27thTraditional Karate ETKF European Championship was held in Rzeszow, Poland, 3 – 4 June. The Norwegian team was represented by Kjersti Leiren Boag, Eddy Rislien, Stein Gunnar Løwenhjelm, and Stein Paulsen.
Unfortunately the men division didn’t fair too well during this championship resulting in first round exit in all categories. The kumite team came close to beating Germany. It was even after the third and final contestant and so an extra match was called. Stein Gunnar for being the most experienced of the three took on the job in the extra match for Norway. When things were just looking like coming our way the German suddenly came with an unexpected ushiro-geri. A wazari was awarded to the German and so was the match. It was just too bad guys. However, some pride was restored to team Norway through Kjersti Leiren Boag who reached the semi-final in the women individual kata, and landed on a hard contested 5th place. Congratulations Kjersti!
The 2007 championship will be held in Slovakia. Both Martin and I will certainly work hard in putting together a better team for this championship, as well as for all coming international championships.
